Oversized, metallic number balloons became wildly popular on social media this year. After seeing dozens of posts with the same balloons on our feeds, it got us thinking about the other “photo worthy” balloons out there.

Balloons have been a staple in celebration decor forever, but the creativity of event planners has proven they’re good for more than just hanging decor.

The right balloon, or set of balloons, can be transformed into an amazing centerpiece, cake topper or backdrop! Check out the Pinterest board we created here, to see how balloons can take your next celebration, corporate event or campaign to the next level.

We love the effort big corporations have been making lately in order to minimize their ecological footprint! Events can lead to lots of waste, but there are ways to change that. Going green at events doesn’t have to be hard, try out these simple tips at your next event:

Try to eliminate single use plastic goods whether that be cups, plates or cutlery. If you have to go with disposable tableware, look into recycled plastic and bamboo options. Try to encourage guests to create as little waste as possible by labeling what they use. Check out our favorite labeling pens here!

Whenever possible, opt for natural lighting at your event. If you’re holding your event outdoors and want to create natural light when the sun goes down, candlelight ambiance might be an option. Using 100% soy based candles is the most eco-friendly option, as wax candles are typically made from a petroleum byproduct.

Make it easy to recycle! If you are hosting your event outdoors, make sure you bring both a garbage can and a recycling can to encourage your guests to recycle.

Have reusable containers on hand and encourage guests to take home whatever food isn’t eaten. If it’s easy to transport, very few people will say no to extra dessert!

Spring 2018 Weddings: What To Wear

With New York Fashion Week all around us, we thought we would share our favorite fashion trends we’ve been seeing in the wedding world. Spring 2018 for brides is all about feminine and ornately detailed accents, where men’s fashion has taken a turn for the bold! Check out our Pinterest board here to see a compilation of some of our favorite trends.

Many brides have decided their “something blue” is their dress! Soft hues of baby blue, light pink, and champagne are stealing the show this season. Brides are not shying away from adding color to their wedding day looks.

Like bride, like groom; many men have also decided to incorporate a color twist in their ensembles. Checkered suits are becoming increasingly popular this season.

Whether you are a going for vintage look or full glitz and glamour, intricately embellished dresses are the perfect way to show off your personal style. Beaded details have always been popular, but brides are now opting for beading on the entirety of the dress.

Dresses with dramatic, detailed sleeves create a romantic and feminine look. Sleeves with cascading lace embroidery are one of my personal favorites.

A Wedding Far, Far Away

The holiday season is an extremely busy time for engagements! If the snow has you thinking of planning a wedding far, far away EventMates is here to help with our favorite tips regarding destination weddings:

If you and your fiancé are thinking of financing some of your guests’ travel expenses, your budget will play a huge part in dictating your guest list. With larger destination weddings, including people outside of immediate family and close friends, we have seen that about 50% of the guests invited will be able to attend.

While a scouting trip is an extra expense, it is so helpful in determining that the destination and venue fit a vision that you are putting much of your time, money, and energy into. We recommend traveling to your wedding site, local hotels that you can recommend to guests, as well as any fun activities/sights that guests may want to see while they are there for your wedding. Some guests may want to make a mini-vacation of the trip!

If you and your fiancé have decided to plan the wedding yourself, consider hiring a day-of planner. A day-of planner acts as the liaison and coordinator between the couple and all vendors throughout the day. They keep the wedding running smoothly and will allow you to enjoy a beautiful, and worry-free day! Click here for a free consultation, where you can learn what type of planning services are right for your destination wedding!

Central Park Birthday Celebration

We recently spent a beautiful fall afternoon helping Tristan celebrate his first birthday! With blankets, pumpkins, hay bales, and all the best flavors of fall, we transformed a corner of Central Park. Guests (of all ages!) enjoyed live singing while snacking on caramel apples and apple cider donuts in the perfect fall weather. Happy Birthday Tristan!

Pumpkin Party for the Little 1 in Your Life

We are in the October spirit this week by putting together a pumpkin themed first birthday! Our mood board draws inspiration from pumpkin patches, apple picking, and a country chic atmosphere. Our guest of honor is a girl, so along with a traditional bright pumpkin orange, we are incorporating pastel shades of orange and pink to give it a more feminine and delicate feel. Check out our Pinterest board here to see what we’re designing! We can’t wait to celebrate!

Smorgasburg LA

Instagramable food has become one of the most important factors at almost every event. Food that looks just as good as it tastes is a crucial way to keep guests sharing and to keep guests posting! As a passionate foodie and an event marketer, I knew I needed to check out Smorgasburg LA, the mecca of all “share worthy” food in Southern California.

I spent a perfect Sunday afternoon experiencing all that my stomach could handle! Smorgasburg is a west coast foodie’s paradise in the middle of an otherwise very urban area. Bright picnic tables and umbrellas line the blacktop where the food festival lives. Carefully selected vendors did not disappoint; between authentic Hawaiian fried shrimp, tropical fruit infused teas, and vegan “chicken” nachos, I still can’t choose a favorite! As an event professional, I give them credit for fabricating an urban area and curating vendors that created a holistic experience specifically catered to their market. WIth plenty of vegan options, countless Instagram opps, unique fusions of foods from all different cultures, and a laid back atmosphere it was perfect for LA locals and tourists alike.

On The Floor: Trade Show Trends

We are in the beginning stages of planning for 2018 trade shows and conferences. There are endless opportunities for exhibitors to engage their audience and make their booth more than just a temporary showroom for their product. Attendees want more than just the traditional experience. Here are some tips to make your brand stand out and ensure your brand has a lasting impression:

After the show closes, attendees want a chance to enjoy the city they are only in for a couple days. Utilize the space around you that your hosting hotel or conference center has to offer. Host a mixology class, happy hour, or concert, or after hours.

People love to share interesting things. By creating something that people genuinely want to take a photo with, you will be marketing effortlessly. Use bright colors, creative architecture, or a large sculpture to grab attention. Having an art installation will get people to stop, look, and take a photo!

Conferences can be both busy and exhausting. Dedicate a portion of your booth to comfort. Offer free branded beverages, phone charges, and seating if space allows. Turn your booth into a “safe haven” in the midst of the chaos.
